Other Uses (Typically with different dosages)

Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D): Rifaximin helps alleviate symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea. The approved adult dose is typically 550 mg three times daily for 14 days.
Hepatic Encephalopathy (HE): In patients with severe liver disease, Rifaximin is used to reduce the risk of recurrent episodes of decreased brain function caused by a buildup of toxins (like ammonia). The standard adult dose for this is usually 550 mg twice a day, often in combination with lactulose.
Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO): This is an off-label use where Rifaximin is used to treat bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.
