About
Fexofenadine hydrochloride 180 mg tablets are used to relieve symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives) in adults and children 12 years of age and older.
As a non-drowsy antihistamine, it works by blocking the effects of histamine, a natural chemical in the body that causes allergy symptoms.
Primary Uses
The 180 mg dose is primarily used for:
Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever): Provides relief from symptoms like runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose or throat, and itchy, watery eyes due to indoor and outdoor allergens like pollen, dust mites, and pet dander.
Chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives): Helps to relieve symptoms of persistent allergic skin reactions, including itching, redness, swelling, and rashes.
Important Considerations
Dosage: The typical adult dose is one 180 mg tablet once daily with water; do not take more than one tablet in 24 hours.
Administration: The tablets should be swallowed whole with water. Avoid taking fexofenadine with fruit juices (such as apple, orange, or grapefruit juice) or within two hours of taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, as these can reduce the medication's absorption and effectiveness.
